Homemade Moby Wrap.

I’ve had a few people recently ask me how I made my Moby Wraps. Which leads to this blog post.

Listen folks, you can spend $30-$80 on a brand new Moby wrap at the store. They are fantastic. Such great back support. And I will go on record saying I have even carried a 3 and 4 year old in them as well. The thing I realized after I borrowed a friends wrap for the first time was that: it is just a long piece of fabric.

So began the journey of making my own!photo 5

(Excuse the dim lighting and red face- it was 8pm and I had been working out prior).

So- there are two ways to go about this. An average Moby is approximately 4-6 feet long- however long you desire and want it to wrap around you. Most of my own Moby’s are about 4 1/2 to 5 feet long and I am usually a size medium.

Now, you can go to the fabric store and buy yourself 5 feet of fabric and cut it in half lengthwise and you are good to go! And you have 2 Moby’s out of it! That is all there is to it! A Moby wrap is about half the width of the piece you get cut off at the fabric store so you just have to try to cut in a straight line all the way down the fabric (lengthwise) and the end result is 2 really long pieces of fabric that have now become your Moby wraps.

But if you are like me, I had to get the red tag fabric. And I had to get it when it was 50% off the already red tag prices. Which, depending on what fabric I chose, brought me to $3-$12 per Moby. What a deal!

And what’s more than that is I wanted to taper my ends so I wouldn’t have to buy as much fabric. Meaning, I bought only 2-3 yards of fabric and then cut it, sewed it and tapered the ends. It is nothing fancy- really not my best work but it holds up and I have used and abused this piece of fabric for years and it still holds strong!

It just depends on what you  like best. You can have the squared off ends or taper it yourself.

The awesome thing is that you get to pick your fabric and chose a great selection of designs!

photo 3Here are my 4 Moby’s I have- I made them all years ago and feel I need to update them but they still all work so well! The red and blue one is a MUCH thicker material and so I only use it in the winter.

When choosing your fabrics, you want to make sure there is some stretch in the fabric. Not too much elasticity but you want some. Check to see if it stretches in 1 direction or in both directions and decide how much stretch is best for you.

Too much stretch and you will need to really wrap it up super tight to make sure baby is snug enough inside. Too little stretch and it could be way too tight for your baby and will be very uncomfortable.

photo 4These are my two favorite fabrics and I feel are quite gender neutral as well. And there is sparkle in both- always a plus. I mostly use my orange one though because it has the perfect amount of stretch in it and I am most comfortable in that one.

It’s nice that I have a few different to choose from and it was so affordable! I mean, really, $3-$12 per wrap?! How can you NOT make more than one?

photo 2So there it is- all you need to make your won Moby Wrap- FABRIC! Use your coupons and get an even better deal too!

Or go with a friend- pick out your favorite fabrics- go home and cut them both in half and switch one so you get 2 different fabric wraps! How easy is this though really? Just cutting a long piece of fabric!? Just make sure, if you choose not to do the tapering option, you WILL NEED 4 1/2 -6 yards of fabric to be long enough to wrap around you.

And just go on to Youtube to see how to wrap your babies in them. Practice it a few times and you will get the hang of it!

You can also put babies in the cradle position in the wrap and breastfeed while they are in there!

Message me or comment if you have any other specific questions about the wrap or how to make them!

Be blessed, friends!

Run.

Father’s Day 2014. Awesome worship time at church. We sang this song… and God totally spoke to me. It was pretty cool. And I had to share. I’ve heard it many times before, but it touched me differently today.

The song is Forever Reign. Scroll to the bottom of the post for the link. And please… go watch/listen. And soak it in. (And check out all the versions too- they are all great!)

I love the whole song but there was one particular part that stood out to me this day. I encourage you to listen to the song and worship our Almighty King. He deserves all the glory.

Let me back up. When I arrived at church that morning, my son and I went for a walk down the hallway and were just hanging out. About 10 minutes later, we hear a familiar voice down the hall. I said to my almost 2 year old son, “Neo, you hear that? I think Bubu is here!” (His grandpa). An instant smile spreads across his face as he recognizes his Bubu’s voice. He takes off down the hallway, curving through the halls with lightning speed, searching for that familiar voice. He turns the corner and spots him. His speed quickens as he races closer and closer to his destination. He runs full force into his grandpa’s arms… not slowing down as he draws near, but in fact, speeding up to get the most impact upon arrival. Grandpa swoops him up into his arms and holds him close in the tightest embrace.

Then another familiar voice. Grandma. And the run is back on. He runs over to his Buma for another sweet embrace in her arms. Again, not stopping short at any point to lower the intensity of impact, but actually full force speed.

I get the amazing experience (having 4 young kids) to see all of them run with this unhindered excitement into the arms of loved ones. I don’t leave them often, but when I do, I get to experience that “running hug” for myself. They are incredible. Why do we ever stop doing that? I think running hugs should be an acceptable daily form of greeting.

Anyways… without fail. Every day, when my husband gets home from work, all the kids are screaming “Daddy, daddy!” The glee on their faces, their shaking bodies, their joyous cries… all because daddy is home. And as soon as he gets out of the car, the run begins. Who can get to daddy first? Who gets to give him that first big hug and be welcomed into his loving arms? Usually it works out that one or two get picked up, and the third ones wraps their arms around daddy’s legs. Their excitement cannot be contained.

This is not an occasional happening either. Every. Single. Day. They are thrilled to see daddy when he gets home from work. Every single time we get to see Bubu and Buma, and Dia Keena and Dia Turah (aunties), and Nana, the excitement is uncontainable. They can’t help but run into their arms for the biggest hugs they can get. And I love to watch it. I must look like an idiot too. I just stand there with this goofy grin on my face as I endearingly watch my kids run to give people hugs. Their joy is contagious and it makes me joyful.

Being on the other end of those hugs too- is the best feeling! Nothing like it. Knowing that someone is THAT thrilled to see you that

A. They need to RUN to get to you (walking is not fast enough) and

B. They usually need to jump into your arms to get the best full effect

If you don’t have little kids or maybe have never tried a running hug yourself… do me a favor. Try it. You’ll be amazed how it makes you feel. And I bet you can’t do it without a smile on your face.

But let me get back to the point of this post. As I witnessed my son running into Bubu’s and Buma’s arms that Sunday morning- that usual lovey dovey feeling filled me up once again. And then when we sang this song during worship time- I knew what God was telling me.

He wants us to run to him like that. With that pure unadulterated joy and excitement. Child-like. Running into our Father’s arms.

How cool! We are never too old to run into our daddy’s arms. And He is there- ready to pick us up, spin us around, laugh out loud, and embrace us in the warmest most loving embrace ever.

So today friends, RUN INTO HIS ARMS!

Hear that familiar still-small voice. You know He is near. Seek Him. See him down that beaten road. He is just ahead of you. He is here. Take a few steps. Feel the excitement starting in your belly. And moving up into your heart. Start to quicken your pace. A little faster now. Feel that grin spread across your face. You can’t help but smile. He is getting closer. And closer. Go faster. Feel the wind across your face. Now run to him. Faster. And faster. He is reaching out to you. He is ready for you! Run faster! Don’t slow down! Keep going! You are almost there!

Brace for impact but don’t stop short! Jump into your Saviors arms and feel his love envelop you! Feel the healing and comfort surge through you! Close your eyes, release all fear and SQUEEZE HIM TIGHT! And laugh… Oh, laugh like you’ve never laughed before. Let go of all inhibitions and hug your King. Hug him. Love him. Because he loves you more than you could ever know. More than you could ever comprehend.

Run into his arms.

You are good, You are good
When there’s nothing good in me
You are love, You are love
On display for all to see
You are light, You are light
When the darkness closes in
You are hope, You are hope
You have covered all my sin

You are peace, You are peace
When my fear is crippling
You are true, You are true
Even in my wandering
You are joy, You are joy
You’re the reason that I sing
You are life, You are life,
In You death has lost its sting

Oh, I’m running to Your arms,
I’m running to Your arms.
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

You are more, You are more
Than my words will ever say
You are Lord, You are Lord
All creation will proclaim
You are here, You are here
In Your presence I’m made whole
You are God, You are God
Of all else I’m letting go

Oh, I’m running to Your arms
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

My heart will sing
no other Name
Jesus, Jesus

Oh, I’m running to Your arms
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
